Organization of the Site
The OLC is organized into 3 major sections:
- Basic Steps - the bulk of the site - which provides detailed advice on how to lead the team through tis various phases
- Tools - which includes printable tools whose uses are described throughout the Basic Steps
- Resources - which suggests additional resources to support the team leader
In addition, a comprehensive Site Map page allows instant access to any particular topic or tool.
Basic Steps
There are 4 Basic Steps within the web site that will be helpful to individuals leading their first team and to those who are already midstream with a team:
- Step 1. Choosing & Gathering a Team
- Step 2. Leading the First Team Meeting
- Step 3. Leading the Second Team Meeting
- Step 4. Sustaining the Team over it's Life Cycle
Tools
Specific tools are included to help manage the team process and increase productivity and cohesiveness, while minimizing conflict. The Tools offer the team leader a host of methods and approaches to manage the team process. These tools are available to print and use actively with the team.
For example, several conflict management tools are available to assist with team development. These tools include communications tools, conflict cause analysis, brainstorming and mind mapping. An explanation of how to use each of the tools is found within the Basic Steps.
Resources
Additional resources are included to assist the team leader and members in learning more about how teams can be structured, managed, developed, and nurtured. Suggestions include books, magazine articles and workshops that apply to team management issues.
